US need not bother
The US have offered to assist Nigeria identify the
sponsors of Boko Haram. As usual, I believe the US is being mischievous.Every right thinking person knows the sponsors. The US cannot claim to be oblivious to this open secret.
The United Arab Emirates even thought they were doing Nigeria a favour by jailing some Nigerians as sponsors of Terrorism in Nigeria.
One of the earliest concepts I learnt in my Secondary School Economics is SCALE OF PREFERENCE.
Finding the sponsors of Boko Haram ranks very low on our scale of Preference. If the US really want to play big brother they may volunteer information on why they tried to stop NOI from emerging as DG of World Trade Organization or any other thing that may catch the fancy of PMB. But naming the sponsors of Boko Haram would sure be a thankless job.
I know the niceties of Diplomacy may not allow Abuja reject the offer but their mode of acceptance will sure sound worse than a rejection.
For a start they may ask the US for a return of Abacha loot in their banks before any further correspondence on the offer.
The US need not break sweat on Boko Haram. Ihejirika as Chief of Army Staff narrowly escaped being summoned by the ICC for his relentless battle against Boko Haram.
I recall the boast by our able or is it unable Information Minister that Boko Haram had been technically defeated.
I doubt if he even remembers saying so. What we have in Nigeria today is the making of Afghanistan but God forbid.
GEJ felt the wrath of Boko Haram and was helpless. PMB came in smoking and eventually fizzled out.
Religion is involved that is why and it is quite unfortunate.

DeleteWhy do you doubt the offer? I believe the offer will start a process of proper evaluation of all that is on ground and thus a new approach.
