Nigerian Air: Ownership with 5% shares

Magic is a bag of tricks. It is make

believe. The same absence of logic and reality dwells in the corridors and minds of Nigeria's policy makers.

Words like Majority shares and controlling shares cut no ice with them. Rather it is Golden shares like where 9 legislators would impeach a governor who has the support of majority members in a house of twenty something members.

Nigeria Air is still born after 3 good years of International unveiling. Let no one be surprised. Typical of our sense of magic, a government that contributed only 5% wants to be calling the shots. This is reminiscent of the golden shares of our recent past.

However, it can still happen except that money from government can go to a select group of individuals in the diaspora to return as foreign investors.

Typical of opaque transactions like that, in no time bickerings would set in and litigations follow ending in a collapse of the business.

Airline business may be prestigious but the profit margin the world over is nothing to write home about. Nigeria does not suffer from a lack of Airlines.

What we need from government is the basics like Light, potable water and shelter. These are glaringly missing in our lives in an era where space travel is the in thing for some.

With the plethora of Nigerians doing wonders abroad, there is hope for Nigeria. Perhaps when our locust years are over, we will join the comity of nations, who care for their people.
