Diplomatic fiasco in Indonesia

Shakara Oloje is the title of a smash hit from legendary singer Fela. The

diplomatic face off between Jakarta and Abuja was a little more than a storm in a tea cup.

The Indonesian authorities have since tendered their apologies. The aspect of the report I got that set me off was the aspect that said it was not clear if the Nigerian Ambassador to Indonesia ever left Indonesia during the crisis.

That part of the report at best was most undiplomatic. If you say you are recalling your man for consultations, you recall him. No half measures.

Otherwise, you make yourself a laughing stock of the International community.

But what if the Ambassador was too scared to come back? I think not.

All in all, I hope the storm is over. Given the fissiparous tendencies in Nigeria, I am happy the Islamic nature of Indonesia did not colour Nigeria's nationalistic instincts.

To this extent, those harbouring misgivings over the nepotistic tendencies of the present Nigerian government ought to heave a huge sigh of relief.

In other matters, the Nigerian government is closing its eyes to the fiasco in the Olympics and rather optimistically hoping for a better outing in Paris.

Optimism is free. Realizing goals involve preparations. How do we ensure that today's medal hopes do not fulfill their dreams representing other countries?

That is the reality.
