Zee world, Nollywood and Nigerian Culture

The way I marvel at the giant strides of Indians, one could be pardoned to

think that I prefer them to Nigerians. Far from it..The thought that some Nigerian firms actually struggle to employ Indians not for their technical competence but for their ability to help them get ahead through underhand means, makes me spit in disgust.

My attention today is the latest craze in town, Channel 166 of DSTV- Zee world.

While, I prefer watching local content both in English and Nigerian Languages, I reluctantly join my family members in watching Channel 166 because of their approach to content. Indians would not be caught dead doing on Television what most of our film makers push out in representation of who we are.

To say that Indians are not romantic is a big misjudgement. They write and portray blissful romance. Romance that I will have no qualms in watching with my family.

Britain I keep making the point, colonized India like Nigeria but somehow, the Indians have managed to protect their culture better than we have.

They dress Indian in Zee world, while we prefer to ape the West in.our films. I have to make this point because, I am someone who never tires of preaching local content and patronage for it.

Doing that pits patriotism against sound morals. Any day I will vote morals over patriotism because immorality does no entity any good. It may even sound the death knell of a country.

I have come across a criticism of those who promote Zee world over Nollywood but please, the best way to do that is to put rich and culturally ennobling content like in Davido's Video talking about not wanting Ferari.

That Video was very culturally rich. Our film makers should emulate Tunde Kelani and emulate Zee world in preaching Love by word and edifying action and not pornography.

The kind of content they, the film makers rush out into the public space smacks of thoughtlessness.

That such things abound more than quality films of high moral content like The Johnson's is a testament to the low intellectual and patriotic vibe behind the offerings.

We may be all things but our film makers should not add making us the sin capital of the world. Some may like that, but certainly they cannot be in the majority.
