Nigeria and bandwagon effect

Sometimes, I wonder why we are the way we are? In Nigeria, we find it quite

easy to latch on an idea, and make it the proverbial OPEN SESAME.

Today, it is electronic transmission of results. In itself, it is not a bad idea but we should remember, the saying, ' garbage in, garbage out'.

I believe a more fundamental question is picking candidates and voting by the electorate.

In a previous post, I had alluded to the  idea that politics is too important to be left to Politicians alone. The more people that get involved, the better.

It is believed that evil triumphs when good people do nothing. When good people shy away from politics, I wonder if that in itself will sanitize the process? Of course not.

Going by the principle of sowing and reaping, when we sow bad people expectedly, we reap concomitant evil practises.

It beats my imagination how decent people shun politics only to fall victim to the antics of politicians who are peopled by the dregs of society.

Fortune they say favours the brave. The brave stay back to ask dangerous questions while the weak play the role of pacifiers.

In the end, only participants win and pacifiers watch from afar. No, everyone should get on board.

Women and children should not be exempt. In my local government, I see pictures of a local government aspirant. Recently, he has added the picture of a female, possibly as a running mate.

The day I see them in flesh will be the day. The problem goes beyond electronic transmission of results.

Posters everywhere. Where are the persons? Never heard of them before the elections.

After the elections, the same process repeats itself.

Which way forward? Sure, the answer cannot be in electronic transmission of results or is it?
