What should I tell my children?
Lest we forget.
In 1999, Olu Falae a Yoruba man
contested the Presidency of Nigeria with Olusegun Obasanjo, a Yoruba man.It is not that they were the most qualified in their Political parties. No, they were not.
In 2003, Yar'Adua a Fulani man from Katsina was elected President of Nigeria. Shortly after, he took ill and no one could say with certainty what his ailment was and when he died.
Eventually, his deputy became President.
He was highly villified while in office. He was Ijaw from Bayelsa State.
In 2015, he was replaced by Muhammad Buhari a former military leader.
PMB hails from Katsina. Shortly after taking office, 32 years after ruling as Military Head of State, PMB took ill. Like Yar'Adua, he is from Katsina State.
Many believe it was a terminal illness. Recently, he granted Arise TV, a leading TV station in Nigeria an interview. It was a rare gesture.
How can I explain to my children that in a Democracy, my President only talks when he is tired of keeping away from the public?
How do I tell my children that the President who seemingly had a terminal illness is completely healed in his old age?
Could it be why he hardly makes live broadcasts?
Could it be why, we now have robberies in the seat of power?
Could it be why there are shoot outs between those for and against the first lady?
Should my children ask why the health conditions of those who are in charge of the health situation of the country, is a secret, whereas, you need medicals to be confirmed in certain jobs?
Please help me prepare for the questions of my children.
God will heal the country.
