The North need not explain their preference for one Nigeria

It is ironic that only the North wants to remain in Nigeria while others want out. Is is that the Northerners are

lacking in honour or that they love the south that much?

Well in a union where one partner is contributing so little and taking so much, the other partner is bound to feel aggrieved.

The sad part of the situation is that the north feels that Nigeria is their Fiefdom but they are mistaken.

They know very well that they cannot force the South to remain in a union where they are treated as second class citizens.

The United Nations recognizes the right to self determination of the peoples of the world.

If the North is serious with their desire for one Nigeria then they must be prepared to eat the humble pie and make far reaching concessions.

They should be prepared to go into an arrangement that guarantees equal powers for every part of the nation. Revenue allocation should be based strictly on derivation.

The principle of Federal character should be applied strictly in Federal appointments and quota system abolished in Federal educational institutions.

These are the reasons why the North want in and the South wants out. The South cannot be laying the golden eggs for the North to be giving them handouts.

It should be from each group according to it's capacity to each according to it's contribution.

Without such reforms, the north backed by all the arsenal in Nigeria's armoury cannot guarantee unity but further division either by force or by negotiation.
