The metamorphosis of El Rufai

From early political naivety,

Nasir El Rufai has emerged as a Major power broker in the Nigerian space.

Luck they say is when preparation meets opportunity. That indeed is the case of El Rufai.

He made a first class in Quantity Surveying in Ahmadu Bello University where he also had a Masters in Business Administration. 

He was an Economic advisor to Abdulsalam Abubakar. 

He was Director of Bureau of Public Enterprises and Secretary National Council on Privatization under Hamza Al Zayadd.

To say that El Rufai is an egg head is to state the obvious. He holds a degree in Law and a Masters Degree from Harvard, among other illustrious academic achievements.

 Atiku Abubakar recruited him into his Political machinery only for him to switch allegiance from Atiku to Obj.

That incident reminds me of the treatment meted to Atiku by late Tony Anenih, Mr. Fix it. Anenih like El Rufai had shifted allegiance from Atiku to Obj prompting Atiku to remind him that they had always been in the same political camp, to which Anenih responded that it was Obj that made him a Minister.

No wonder as Minister of works under Obj, Anenih could not fix our roads with a budget of N100bn and nothing happened.

Atiku head hunted El Rufai as part of his political machinery but Obj made him Minister of the FCT and his loyalty shifted.

Obj really supported him to the extent that when the political greenhorn El Rufai called Nigerian Legislators fools and they called for his head, it was Obj that weathered the storm for him.

Much as I do not support Anenih and El Rufai, I think Atiku has a fault in the matter. He too was disloyal to his Boss, Obj, otherwise it would have been, being loyal to one man, Obj.

However, it is an aberration in Nigeria that loyalty to the person supercedes loyalty to the nation.

From his relative political obscurity, El Rufai combined intelligence with bravado to emerge a force to reckon with.

Today, he is the brightest star from the North. To underline El Rufai's new found status, embattled Hadiza Bala Usman does not hide her loyalty to El Rufai. Indeed, Hadiza born in 2976, with a bachelor's degree in Business and a masters from Ahmadu Bello University, was until her appointment as Managing Director of Nigerian Port's Authority, the Chief of Staff to El Rufai's Government.
