Inflation figures dipping in Nigeria effortlessly

There are limits to what can be regarded as Political. Inflation figures

should not be politicized.

Not too long ago, a top level government official had cause to query inflation figures from the Bureau of National Statistics.

The Inflation figures recently released by the government organ seem to be aiming at Political correctness. The figured indicate a fall in Inflation. Of all reasons responsible for the decrease, it is food prices.

I am happy not a few people set stock by anything government figure, otherwise the level of opprobrium the figures would have received would have been unprecedented.

Truth be told food is so expensive in Nigeria that not less than half the population of Nigerians spend more than half of their income on food. To that extent, food inflation should have a significant impact on Inflation figures.

But to attribute a fall in Inflation in Nigeria of today, to a fall in food prices is to do injustice to the poor and hungry who are daily struggling with rising prices of foodstuffs.

The All Progressives Congress are currently being upbraided for failed promises but a separate or special market never featured in their basket of promises.

So where did the National Bureau of Statistics get their figures from?

Unemployment is real, they may be fighting to keep their government jobs.

The bad news is that making their figures worthless would send them into the job market faster than government decision.

Since nature forbids a vacuum, their irrelevance may well pave the way for a private sector led replacement. Then and only then would they have realized how they shot themselves in the foot.

To be or not to be, the choice is theirs to make.
