The fall of Justice Umar

When I received the report of a Justice slapping a security man, I did not think

much of it. When I found out who it was, I shuddered.

The Slayer of honorable Justice Onnoghen. The man before whom Bukola Saraki as Senate President repeatedly appeared.

Justice Umar Danladi is the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The question is how did he descend so low?

The answer is in the powers he wields. Lord Acton was not wrong when he said that 'power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely'.

That was his undoing. If he could convict a whole Chief Justice, who is a mere security man to tango with his driver?

Please, do not ask what a Judge was doing at a public mall. The story is that he went to repair his watch. Can you believe that?

On the one hand, he is as straight as an arrow and so lacks the money for a new watch. Now, whatever happened to his personal assistant to run such an errand?

On the other hand, the Judge may be so idle that he had to personally run such an errand.

Either way, running such an errand belittles his exalted office. However, when you promote a man beyond his competence, he finds a way to reduce the office to his lilliputian level.

For the most high ranking Judge of such a body to behave like a common tout is unbecoming of his calling as a Judge.

For crying out loud, it was a simple matter of inappropriate parking of the car of his Lordship. Something, that ordinarily, should not bother the Judge but the security man needed to know that he was way out of his league.

Now the Judge has desecrated his office, what next?
