Pantami as a testimony to the quality of Our Legislature

That Pantami happened as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is

both a testimony to the indolence and timidity of our Legislature at all levels and the dual nature of our polity.

Our Legislative houses are usually more interested in pecuniary benefits than the quality of work expected of patriots.

They behave so for a reason. How they came about their posts. Representatives of the people, they are in name, but usually they are there at the instance of a Godfather whose word is Law.

Doing the bidding of the Godfather does not even guarantee a security of tenure for the Legislator but the whim of the Godfather.

The dual nature of our polity makes it possible for Pantamis to happen. In a nation where leaders address foreign press in a local language and many citizens are not aware of such, Pantami is bound to happen.

Many are people of substance in the northern part of Nigeria who are hardly known in the South and vice versa.

In all this, the Legislators should stand in the gap. The Press should help but they are based mostly in urban centres.

That Pantami happened is a matter of grave concern and thanks to the International community for our sudden discovery of the error.

When one is in a hole, the best thing to do is to retreat not dig in. PMB should do the needful as quickly as possible.

  1. My boss, Pantami is not in that position by error but by design. The only error or errors are our legislature. Their grand agenda remains on course. It is the rest of us that will decide whether to let it come to pass or not.
