In sympathy with Garba Shehu

This is not the best of times to be a Presidential spokesman. Garba Shehu

like Femi Adeshina have in the course of their duty as PMB'S spokesmen made a lot of hard sales.

Today, Garba Shehu's hard sale is warding off attacks against the person of Minister Ali Pantami, for his controversial views on terrorism.

In the course of that hard sale, Garba Shehu has had to touch on Certificate forgery. Perhaps, he should have touched on another line of defence not that.

Soon Nigerians would ask him for PMB's certificate. Saying that Pantami's old views on terrorism is more tolerable than Kemi Adeosun's certificate forgery is to compare death with sleep.

Pantami may be a saint to PMB and Garba Shehu but the damage to this Government is irredeemable. For those who remember PMB'S antecedents as the trusted of Boko Haram, Pantami's continued stay in office will be a living testimony to what PMB'S administration is all about.

This matter will continue to haunt this Government whether Pantami resigns or not. But in the end it is Nigeria and Nigerians who will lose, for Pantami will find it quite difficult to win back public trust.

Garba Shehu may not know it but already aspersions are being cast on Pantami's latest project: National Identity Number. The talk out there is that it is a ruse to bring in foreigners into our database.

For those who see the National Identity project as part of the fight against terrorism, associating that fight with Pantami raises a lot of doubt.

While this matter is still fresh, Pantami and Garba Shehu should think twice and let Pantami's office be vacated by the Minister for another to take. It is the honorable thing to do.
