Watch out for Bashir Tofa

                           Bashir Tofa

For the younger generation, the name Bashir Tofa may not ring a bell. They

have nothing to be ashamed of.

Even at the best of times, the 73 year old politician was never a force to reckon with, no wonder he was worsted by late MKO Abiola. He it was who faced Moshood Kashimawo Abiola of blessed memory  in the controversial June 12, 1993 Elections.

The one sided nature of the Elections is a major reason, I do not set stock by that Election.

However, this article is not about June 12, 1993 Elections. It is about the Kano Born businessman and politician who is gradually creeping back into national discourse.

Not too long ago from his long recess from national discourse, he reared his head. Now he is back again, commenting on Asari Donubo and PMB's team and why they are not delivering on their mandate.

Interestingly, he is neither associated with the ruling All Progressive Congress nor their rival party, the People's De.mocratic Party.

He may well be testing the waters of national politics on his own but I have my doubts.

When he emerged as the candidate for the National Republican Convention in the June, 12 1993  Presidential Elections he was clearly unknown.

Even now of the Kano Born politicians, he still does not qualify as a front runner.

My guess is that Government has an appointment in stock for him and they are just flying a kite like they are wont to do, the world over.
