National Security Adviser vs Service Chiefs
President, Muhammadu Buhari
A house divided against itself, will not stand. It is no news that there is
widespread insecurity in Nigeria. It is also no news that our military are far from being in control of the situation. Not too long ago, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, dropped a bombshell, that the outgoing Service Chiefs embezzled money meant for arms to shore up Nigerian security.
Interestingly, rather than go after the outgoing service chiefs, like the death of Anwar Sadat of Egypt who died in the hands of his security men, the gun is now pointing at Munguno.
It is true, that he who wants to come to equity, must come with clean hands, stories are now coming out to taint Munguno.
He is being accused of corruption. Interestingly, maybe because, Monguno is still in office, he is not being directly accused.
For now an order of forfeiture is in force on the properties of some of his associates in the belief that they are fronts for the National Security Adviser.
If you ask me, I think this is quite embarrassing. The disclosure by the NSA could well be a slip of the tongue but the reaction of Government is unbecoming.
How the whole matter ends will be a plus or a minus for the Government but for now the Government is looking quite bad, not that worse things have not happened but this time the characters involved are too dangerous for comfort.
