The resignation of 127 Nigerian soldiers!
The above is a food for thought. Sometime ago an elderly lady asked me
if Policemen did not have parents? The question came in response to my tirade against police brutality in the face of the attacks they face in the line of duty. Some people may see the resigning soldiers as cowards but this may not be entirely true.
Personally, I am pleasantly surprised that, that option is open to the hapless soldiers.
For now, what war are the soldiers fighting? They are fighting Boko Haram and banditry both in the North.
With regards to Boko Haram, the war is shrouded in mystery. Many a tale have been spun out of it. For long had PMB pronounced the war as over but is it over?
GEJ once declared that he had Boko Haram in government.
The soldiers are pawns in a needless war. I am happy that in the face of tomfoolery by their leaders, the soldiers have an option of bowing out. After all they have families.
With respect to banditry, it is well documented that APC brought the bandits in to defend their electoral victory in 2015, in the hope that GEJ would deny them victory.
Truth be told, in 2015, APC were the more popular party. Unfortunately for the APC, GEJ pulled a fast one on them by throwing in the towel.
Consequently, the bandits had no war to fight but those who brought them in apparently had no clue on how to send them back. Thus, they became lawless.
These are the people the soldiers are meant to fight. If you were in their shoes, how do you fight people who are in the good books of your employers?
