My Governor, his son and Independence

Governor Okowa and his son

Many are those who want to be parents. Parenting is a hard job. Many a parent want a path for his or her child.

The truth is that just like parents have a mind of their own so do children too. When what the child wants is different from what the parents want, there is a problem.

Parents try all they can to bend the child. Sometimes, it works. Other times, it doesn't. Life goes on, making the parents happy or sad.

For Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State, it appears to be a happy case.

He seized the occasion of the birthday of his son to acknowledge his progress and his Independence.

That was the much, the governor let out . Let me guess that, the boy or man is doing well outside government, without relying on his father to soar in life.

It is unfortunate that the governor did not tell us what his son is about.

The governor is within his rights to keep his son's life private except that the public have a right to know about the governor's family and his affairs.

The governor needs not be told that he belongs to all and so does his family until he ceases to be in office.

It will interest the public to know if the governor's son is law abiding or not. The governor's public service begins with his family.

Our politicians are not famous for their examplary conduct. Without a doubt, to expect good deeds from them is not out of place.

Were these expectations to be met, then it will be easy to gauge the conduct of children of public officers.

In the absence of public information, it is safe to judge each first family by the output of their head.

Going by that parameter, the progress of my governor's son and his Independence remain a matter for conjecture.
