Governors' forum to the rescue
Kayode Fayemi
Executive Governor of Ekiti State
Chairman, Governors' Forum
When the trouble by Late Lamidi Adedibu became too much for Obj, Obj
summoned a meeting to which Adedibu was invited. In the course of the meeting, Obj asked Adedibu what he was deriving from causing mayhem? In response, according to the report, Adedibu had a long and loud laugh and retorted that if a whole President could be so concerned about him and summon a meeting about him, what else could he ask for?
Sunday Igboho may be a thug, but he has caused a meeting to hold in respect of a problem that has always been discussed in denial.
That open grazing goes on in all parts of Nigeria but Sambisa forest is no secret. That Fulanis feel a false sense of entitlement in the Nigerian project is also no secret. That PMB is unusually attached to Fulanis is also documented.
The only unknown in the equation is how to solve the problem to the satisfaction of everyone.
What the Governors' forum have come up with is novel but the question is whether it solves the problem?
Sunday Igboho is not the problem but part of the apolitical solution, to the extent that he is not eyeing Fulani votes.
Politicians think and act with the next elections in mind.
That is the import of the meeting with the cattle herders.
Every body needs peace but it was a famed Roman General Flavius Vegetus Renatus who said ' if you want peace, prepare for war'. Karl Marx too said that 'conflict is a vehicle of progress'.
Indeed Sunday Igboho has brought about progress even if he may be seen as a thug.
The end should certainly justify the means.
