Obj as a beneficiary and victim of zoning

Matthew Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo

In 1999, to placate the Yorubas of South West Nigeria, over the death of MKO

Abiola in spite of winning the JUNE 12, 1993 Nigerian Presidential Elections, it was decided that the next President come from the South West.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) picked Obj and Alliance for Democracy (AD) picked Olu Falae who was first Secretary to the Federal government and later Finance Minister under the Military.

In 1999, Obj was not an Igbo man. While in office as President, those who knew him to be Igbo were all away from their vocal sense and were also perhaps visually impaired.

Today, in planning and scheming for 2023 Presidential Elections, they suddenly regain their voices and sight to declare him an Igbo man.

Sometimes I blame voodoo for some of the stunts people pull. For those who are scheming to have BAT contest for President where the Igbos are warming up, their game plan is very weak and they need to quit lest they lose unimaginable political capital.

A word they say is enough for the wise as their gambit is dead on arrival. Even if their claim is true, he did not represent the Igbos knowingly or unknowingly.

They should cut their losses and move on, once there is life, there is hope.
