John Jerry Rawlings 1942 - 2020

 At the age of 32 John Jerry Rawlings as a Flight Lieutenant in the Ghanaian Air

force led a bloody coup. Again he led another coup before contesting as a civilian for President.

He won and did two terms in office.

Before the coming of Rawlings whose mother is a Ghanaian and father a Scot, Ghana was as  corrupt as Nigeria.

Nigerians will always remember Rawlings for the audacious nature of his coups.

They will always associate his coups with what Nigeria needs. 2020 has through Covid - 19 claimed an African hero.

He would be fondly remembered for his courage and fortitude and above all his love for Ghana.

The Ghanaian President has declared 7 days mourning in honour of man who dared to make a difference.

Many may not know that the coup that made Rawlings popular in 1979 was actually, his second, having been arrested and sentenced to death for the failure of his first coup.

He was subsequently, forcibly released from jail while awaiting his execution.

The best tribute Ghanaians can pay to Rawlings is not to go back to the pre Rawlings days, for in life, his shadow was always looming large.
