Oba Elegushi should be mourning
I honestly thought the events of the recent past will leave a lasting
impression. Lekki trended for the wrong reason.
Elegushi is in Lekki. Some people believe in traditional institutions and will do everything to preserve it. But what are the traditional rulers doing?
The day I saw the plate number of the Oba of Lagos, I was saddened. The reason was because the plate number bore ' Olowo Eko'.
My Yoruba is not excellent, so my translation may not be apt, but take it to mean ' the rich man of Lagos'.
So that is it. Kabiyesi is about money. Should he be a role model? Make no mistake about it. He is a role model and many people with blue or red blood so want to be ' Olowo Eko'.
The question is, the traditional stool of Lagos, is it just about money? What is traditional about money?
Youths sacked the palace of the Oba, they were not scared. Perhaps, they were sure to find money and they were ready to bear the risk.
Going on about now in Lekki is the house warming ceremony of the palace of the Oba of Ikate land and in Lekki where the Governor announced that two persons died.
The house warming of the palace of Kabiyesi is important. The Kabiyesi is important. The Kabiyesi was installed by politicians for the value he can bring to the table.
House warming in respect of a palace should not be happening now. Postponement or celebrating in a low key would have been more appropriate.
Perhaps, Kabiyesi may not have been aware of the activities of SARS men in his domain. But surely, he must have been apprised of the protests.
Lifting the curfew was a good idea especially as the curfew would have been violated by the party. But what becomes of the 12am to 4am.curfew, for that party did not look like ending before 12am?
Should youths attack the palace, I know many people would shout sacrilege but when the party was causing heavy traffic and concomitant inconveniences while the bodies of the Lekki dead are yet to be found, nobody has asked why?
