When will Nigerians stop taking traditional rulers more serious than they deserve
From the Oniru of Iru land to the Emir of Zazzau, it is all about the Government of the day, making a
choice.
What beats my imagination is why any sane person would expect the product of government manipulation to ever be impartial.
Please when ever you need a chieftaincy title to massage your ego please look no further than our traditional rulers. These days it is all about the cash but why not?
If in the past killing a wild animal, or bringing heads home from a war could earn one a chieftaincy title why not duping people of millions of dollars or diverting some billions from the public till without being caught should get the attention of any traditional ruler resulting from a crooked process.
Please when communal or national issues arise, look not towards the traditional institution for impartial views rather see whatever views they express as a mirror or the voice of their master who put them in office or on the throne.
Nigeria's grundnorm has no place for them, so we too should see them for what they are - pensioners savouring the quiet of the country side.
Preserving culture should be their forte but not when the government has a hidden agenda.
In the end, culture is dynamic and change is constant. The sooner we know and accept this, the better for us all.
