What mode was the Army against Boko Haram?
Tukur Yusuf Buratai: Chief of Army Staff
Sometimes, you never know whether to laugh or cry when certain situations arise. How can the Nigerian army say they
are just switching on to War mode in tackling Boko Haram?Maybe the Nigerian army have an understanding with Boko Haram otherwise why should they just be realizing that Boko Haram had long switched on to war mode.
Honestly there is a need to subject this statement to intense scrutiny. Remember the amnesty program of the government for repentant Boko Haram insurgents and the policy of reintegrating them into the army.
It is true that we have northern and southern Nigeria, but I am not aware of two different constitutions for Nigeria.
While Boko Haram is based in the North, the soldiers that are engaging them in battle are all Nigerians. The government should not give the impression that they are comfortable with what Boko Haram is doing.
Not too long ago, one of the reasons GEJ lost the 2015 Presidential Election was the security situation in the country.. That PMB has a military background contributed to his winning.
One term gone and second term going, the government is only about to switch to war mode in dealing with Boko Haram.
Many years ago, I learnt that one should start preparing for retirement, the day one starts a job.
This is about legacy. How will PMB want to be remembered?
I have often wondered if the Military are wrong or right in condemning civilians for indiscipline?
Indeed who is more disciplined? Suspending the constitution of one's country isn't discipline. So who lacks discipline? Driving against traffic isn't discipline. Taking laws into one's hand isn't discipline.
Usurping the rights of citizens isn't discipline. Abusing the rights of civilians isn't discipline.
PMB may not realize it but from the day he claimed he gave his first appointments to those who suffered with him, that trend has continued and may well be an ignoble part of his legacy.
That the government is just thinking of switching to war mode in the fight against Boko Haram demands an unreserved apology to the whole country for the ineptitude of the government.
