Nigeria at 60

President Muhammad Buhari

With Independence came high hopes which have dissolved like mist in the face of rising sun.

Today we are 60 but we are not

celebrating not because there is nothing to celebrate but because we are at a crossroad.

Gej was civil but said to be clueless. PMB was brought on board with fanfare but the fire is dying out. He appears less than he disappears and yet there is no known cause.

We hear more of the Presidency than the President. Nigerians love foreign goods and can quote Donald Trump word for word but our President we hardly see and we hardly hear.

Tomorrow, he will address the nation by 7am.

Among the things he may not address are Insecurity because it is a non issue. Minimum wage because it is not a northern problem.

Inflation because it is fiction. Closure of schools because the children are vulnerable to kidnappings.

Non functional refineries because Dangote's refinery is on the way. Covid - 19 because it did not start from Nigeria.

I need no soothsayer to say that PMB will address patriotism and remind us of his 1984 speech that we have no other country but Nigeria.

Finally he will salute the National Assembly for their acquiescence in the face of burning national issues and the judiciary for shunning justice and supporting the laudable objective of his administration in turning Justice on its head in pursuing a selfish agenda.

For a nation at 60 PMB is not and can not take us to the Promised land, truth be told.
