Where were you, when Obj picked ailing Umaru Musa Yar'Adua as a successor?
Like a fairy tale , it happened before our eyes and yet we all claim to have balls. Yet it happened.
My admiration for the persona of Obj is more than I have for many a Nigerian leader but my worry is that
Machiavellian as he is, he still manages to be sanctimonious.Obj while in office got captains of industry to donate towards the building of his personal project, ' the Obasanjo Presidential Library'. His anointed Economic and Financial Crimes Czar, Nuhu Ribadu told him it was wrong and he asked Ribadu if he thought those captains of industry would be willing to support the project if he were not President?
That was Obj in his Machiavellian best.
Everybody but Obj knew, Obj tried to use Ibrahim Mantu committee to amend the constitution for him to last longer than his constitutional two terms in office. Perhaps out of frustration, he decided to foist a sick man on Nigerians. To what enIliYour guess is as good as mine.
The result was the ' The Turai' Interregnum and the Presidency of Gej borne of necessity.
Those were the days when a President Umaru Musa Yar' Adua was believed to be ill and the whole nation was praying for his recovery and his wife was playing demi god.
The height of it was when rumours of his total incapacity was so rife that a select group of clergymen to the Villa went and the result was the lie that 'after praying for him, he said Amen'.
Tired of fooling the nation, Gej was made to take over, and to Yar' Adua's burial Gej was forbidden, lest the unimaginable happened.
Gej's lackluster Presidency, was what foisted PMB on Nigerians and like in the last days of Umaru Musa Yar' Adua questionable visits have started to the Villa and I ask, De ja vu?
