Nigeria Police, extra judicial killing and Boko Haram

                    Mohammed Yusuf

Mohammed Yusuf the founder of Boko Haram was taken into custody by the Police in the early days of Boko Haram. In custody the man died. Just like that.

The Police in their wisdom must have

reasoned that the best thing to do is just waste him and his followers will scatter.

The Police, like to throw the Law in people's faces hence they do not get along with Lawyers. The reason being that unlike the average commoner, Lawyers are more than a match for Policemen in matters of the Law.

The airways are full of stories of a major extra judicial killing in the north and not to be out done, another in the south.

Extra judicial killing is rife in the land. It does not speak well of us. I recall my days as a teacher, I had a colleague who used to joke about beating up some people but for the rule of law.

If those tasked with keeping the law do not have faith in the system, then anarchy is brewing. Maybe younger elements in the Force do not the story of Boko Haram. Their seniors owe them a duty to be schooled in that vital history.

Well, since Boko Haram has become many things but a common enemy, the Police may not mind precipitating another one.

To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
