Britain colonized Nigeria and India, but where is our Mahatma Ghandi?

Nigeria is the giant of Africa, but where is our Nelson Mandela? Nigerians are all over the world making waves but when will Nigerians fix Nigeria?

To think that Britain colonized both India and Nigeria and yet, Nigeria is nowhere near India in terms of

Mahatma Gandhi
Indigenization and Industrialization makes me wonder if we had the wrong set of Nationalists?

If Nigeria can be described with a figure of speech, it is Hyperbole!

A Ghanaian stand up Comedian, Fritz Bafour once cracked a joke about a Nigerian, a Ghanaian and a Liberian.

He said that should all three individually pass through a closed door and leave it open, the Ghanaian will follow with a long explanation and that is why Ghanaians are good teachers because they love explanations. The Liberian to him, will deny that the door was ever met closed because they love to lie. The Nigerian will reply by asking what was wrong with leaving the door open. We are very brash.

To think that Mahatma Gandhi worked as a Lawyer in South Africa before leading the struggle to free India from colonialism is reassuring. He not only pulled it off as a leader but he did it in style though the battle was quite tough. That South Africa birthed Nelson Mandela, makes me wonder, what it is about South Africa? Well Barack Obama is Kenyan by origin. This is also reassuring.

Gandhi not only freed the Indians politically, he freed them mentally and culturally.

Though Britain can be blamed for our woes including our Grammar School model, who do we blame for rushing to India for Fabrics, Pharmaceuticals, various affordable surgeries and personnel of various callings especially at bargain fees?

To rub salt on injury the Indians understand our system so much that Nigerian based companies fight hard to get them into strategic positions.

As we approach sixty years of Independence, let us reflect on why we make waves abroad and fail abysmally at home. To throw blames is easy but the hard part is to fix Nigeria.

Who is game?

  1. I put all the blame on Britain. If Britain had handed over to the right calibre of Nigerians at the time of Nigeria's independence, Nigeria by now must have been at par with the advanced nations of the world. Now the damage done to Nigeria is beyond redemption and Nigeria can be likened to a castrated dog which can never climb the bitch.

  2. Truly the country was handed over to wrong set of people.
May Nigeria be restored in our time I pray.
