Abuja, the centre of Law Breaking?
When the Late Justice Timothy Akinola Aguda Committee recommended Abuja as Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory, it was to be a centre of Unity but alas it is fast turning into a centre of Law Breaking.
Covid - 19 has done a huge number on the world and in Nigeria revelations
abound of this.First it was the death of PMB's man Friday and the bizarre law breaking burial that led to a near national uproar and the apology that followed.
Trending still is the wedding of PMB's daughter. The latest on the wedding is that there was no social distancing there. Furthermore, it was also alleged that Naira was abused contrary to existing regulations on spraying of Naira. Perhaps only scarce foreign currencies were sprayed.
For crying out loud, the norm in Nigeria was that our leaders only show up in obedience to the call of ' my people'. Even Obj became Military Head of State against 'his will' but in PMB's case it was different.
He tried and tried until he got there. Nobility entails obligation.
PMB came to office with very strong anti - corruption credentials.
What is happening today is quite contrary to expectations. PMB has lost almost all the goodwill that brought him to office as an anti - corruption crusader.
An anti - corruption crusader should not be associated with nepotism and flagrant disobedience to the laws of the land.
However, maybe we were mistaken for as a social critic asked, ' can a coup plotter be termed disciplined?'
