The giant with the motionless head
It is indeed sad that in doing things our thinking as Nigerians is less than strategic. In picking Jonathan as Vice President even with limited experience as Governor we were less than strategic.
In picking Osinbajo as Vice President without a political clout of note we
were lacking in strategic thinking. When PMB was Military Head of State, he had a vibrant Idiagbon. I do not doubt Osinbajo's abilities but his lack of political clout will always be his albatross. So in picking Osinbajo it was purely for the Christian votes and neither for his antecedents nor for the possibility of being an Idiagbon to PMB.
Today, it is not about the Vice Presidents and a lack of forward thinking. No. It is about PMB.
Nigerians in diaspora and those at home even without watching American news outlets still manage to hear more about Donald Trump than PMB.
To think that unlike Shagari who really wanted to be a Senator, PMB tried severally like Atiku to be President.
I very much doubt if this was what he had in mind for Nigerians and Katsinians , his home state, who are under siege.
It is sad that Nigeria with the largest economy in Africa is being ruled by a leader who for unclear reasons find it unnecessary to engage his people whether in emergency or normal times.
This certainly is no way to lead a people. I do not know if the lack lustre leadership of PMB is what is accounting for a visible lack of leadership anywhere in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Bar Association recently had their elections and it was a tale of woes. The Nigerian Medical Association are not faring better.
The last National Assembly was said to be hostile. This one is simply lacking in ideas.
The judiciary is in coma after the manner erstwhile Chief Justice Onnoghen was disgraced.
At the state level, there is no leadership in any of the arms of government. It is instructive to note that Audu Ogbe rose to national reckoning as Deputy Speaker Benue State House of Assembly.
The late Prince Ademola Adeniji - Adele rose to prominence as a local government chairman gaining the sobriquet 'Prince of hope'.
Akwa Ibom is being governed by an ex Executive Director of a Bank who should know a thing or two about business and I wonder why the State is investing in an Airline and not hospitality. Akwa Ibom is famous for their cuisine.
They have a lovely stadium, the governor should be thinking of Tourism and not aviation.
Akwa Ibom dominates Weight lifting in Nigeria. The state has produced prominent footballers like Etim Esin, Uwem Ekarika and Etta Egbe. Promoting football which is a big International business should appeal to the governor.
The governor was based in Lagos and I doubt if he does not know that Akwa Ibom can do with some agricultural cottage industries for his people.
His neighbour Ayade seems to be a more focused leader but that is as far as it goes.
Truth be told, there is a glaring dearth of leadership in Nigeria. To pick a sector with vibrant leadership is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
So so sad indeed. I guess Buhari is overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problems at hand but rather than throw in the towel would want to keep the Northern slot as it were.
ReplyDeleteSad indeed
DeleteHmm, Nigeria as a whole needs divine intervention. Everything looks so complicated.
