Made in Nigeria

                    Innocent Chukwuma

Nigeria has the largest economy in Africa. Time there was when Nigeria's foreign policy was Afrocentric. An adage says that a man's neighbour is his brother.

The rest of Africa looks up to Nigeria and it will do us a lot of good when we are taking domestic decisions to be mindful of this fact.

Innoson Vehicle Manufacturers is a

foremost Nigerian Indigenous Motor Manufacturer. In a recent interview, the Chief Executive Officer, Innocent Chukwuma disclosed that he is servicing an order for vehicles worth $4.7m from Sierra Leone.

It reminded me of a story I heard of Ajaokuta Steel Mills importing Iron Ore from Brazil instead of Liberia.

Innocent Chukwuma is happy that the National Assembly that should be making laws for the good of Nigeria is saying that they are too big to ride in Nigerian made cars and like the Biblical Story of dogs feeding off the crumbs from the master's table, Sierra Leone are rooting for Innoson Vehicles.

This story throws up a number of issues. A lot of prominent Nigerians have died in the wake of the Covid - 19 pandemic due to the parlous state of our Health Care. Following from this it makes a lot of sense to develop local capacity in as many sectors as possible.

Government patronage  is non negotiable. Innoson Ventures is a  private business but it is still Nigerian and can help accelerate the Industrialization of Nigeria.

Industrialization can help tackle the problem of unemployment and raise Nigeria's standard of living. Let this be known helping Innoson can give birth to other indigenous motor companies thus making Nigeria a force to reckon with in the business.

Our politicians can do better and should do better. The time to act is now.
