The only Female Speaker

Patricia Olubunmi Foluke Etteh

The honour of being the first and only Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives belongs to Patricia Olubunmi Foluke Etteh of Osun State.
She became Speaker after Obj's first term in Office as President.
She enjoyed Obj's support but she did not last long as Speaker and since then no other female has enjoyed that honour.
Etteh is listed as a Hair dresser, beautician and a cosmetologist.
One may wonder what her being a hair dresser has to do with it but Oshiomhole was a Tailor.
Everybody is entitled to a life and that is her life.
Alongside training as a beautician, she indeed has a Law Degree and has since been called to the Bar.
Her reign as Speaker was marred by accusations of financial malfeasance for which feminists would not be proud.
It was the controversy over the amount spent to renovate her official residence and purchase some vehicles for the House that led to her resignation from  Office.
Records are said not to contain her indictment.
For the political space in Nigeria and other third World countries to be devoid of corruption, strong anti - corruption regulations have to be enforced by strong institutions. The question is how to build these institutions. We are all agreed that corruption is endemic and wish it dead but how many of us are clean?
