Oshiomhole - The Metamorphosis of a dogged fighter
Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole
To say that Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole is a born fighter is to state the obvious. To also say he is controversial is equally correct. Hate him or love him, Oshiomhole is eloquent. To all intents and purposes, Oshiomhole has a very hazy background and more hazy backers. His educational background is very hazy. But what is as clear as daylight is that he made a name for himself as a dogged fighter of a Trade Unionist who took on another formidable fighter in Obj and got a 25 percent pay rise for Nigerian workers.
In spite of all odds, he was a trade unionist on whom corruption allegations did not stick. In the eyes of the public he was committed and upright.
He followed up his stint as a Trade Unionist with a foray into Party Politics under the banner of the Action Congress of Nigeria. He lost at the Polls but won in court for a first term as Executive Governor of Edo State. He contested and won at the polls for a second term.
After his charge as Governor he was elected Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
It was on this job that Adams Aliyu Eric Oshiomhole met his Waterloo.
Of all places, Oshiomhole who cut his teeth far away from home as a trade Unionist and later Executive Governor of his State was undone in his Local Government in Edo State.
Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole is a classic case of not being born great but achieving greatness from the grassroots and ending up being betrayed at the grassroots.
His is a lesson in being aware of your environment. Typically of most Nigerian Politicians, they achieve success away from their home State and go back home to engage in Politics. Whatever happened to being a good citizen wherever you dwell? It is like the case of the city man that goes to the village to take a bride. The truth of the matter is that by doing that a village champion just got up ended just like Oshiomhole was up ended by his ward Chairman.
The sooner we Nigerians learn to feel at home wherever we live the better.
It is not uncommon for people to rush to their villages during Census and Party registration. Practices like these are sure to lead us nowhere.
Everywhere is home 4 a man with a good heart.
