Destroying a Nation by destroying its Education

Lawal Batagarawa

Just by chance I came across this idea that the best way to destroy a Nation is by destroying her Education.
Nigeria is a third world country in need of rapid development.
If to destroy a nation, you have to destroy her Education, sure to lift a Nation should be by lifting her Education.
But how can this be in a Nation fighting an internecine warfare against Boko Haram in a way that glorifies the terrorists more than those fighting them.
Consider how repentant terrorists are promised goodies while those fighting them are neglected and disillusioned. To think that soldiers are being neglected instead of being celebrated is shameful. Pray when last was a soldier celebrated for gallantry against Boko Haram.
It is no surprise in a Nation that is blessed with Ministers of Education who care less about accelerated Educational development.
It is curious the way Ministers are nominated not for what they can do but for want of any office just to justify egalitarianism in sharing the spoils of Electoral victory.
In 1999 at the birth of the fourth Republic in Nigeria, Satellite Campuses worldwide began an upward journey in numbers but by 2001 in Nigeria, Satellite campuses were banned completely. What gave me the jitters was not the ban but what the Minister Lawal Batagarawa said to the effect that satellite campuses were springing up everywhere because of ' the mad rush for Education by Southerners '. Can you beat that? Of all the Ministers that should criticize the rush for Education, it is the man in charge of Education. The good news is that Boko  Haram is a Hausa word for 'Western Education is Evil'. That the Minister is from the North tells a lot.
Fast forward to 2019 and the same idea is being reiterated, I mean the ban on Satellite Campuses and the Education Minister again is a Northerner.
There is this saying that to run fast, you run alone but to run far you run together.
Indeed Southerners produce the bulk of Nigerian Sprinters but the Northerners supply most of our long distance runners.
The world is running farther and farther away from us. Do we sprint or trot?
